{"id":544,"title":"Why \u2018Smug Vegan\u2019?","description":"Where our name came from, why we think it\u2019s okay to be a Smug Vegan, and also why that\u2019s not enough.","content":"<h2>What is there to be smug about?<\/h2><p>We get a lot of information every day about the \u2018right\u2019 thing to be doing.<\/p><p>Right now, that\u2019s about eating less meat for:<\/p><ul><li><p>Climate change minimisation (lower methane emissions)<\/p><\/li><li><p>Reducing pollution (from slaughter houses and farming waste)<\/p><\/li><li><p>Cleaner oceans (because animal waste is poisoning fish)<\/p><\/li><li><p>Easing world hunger (less farming for animal feed = more food for humans)<\/p><\/li><li><p>and a whole load more.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.teemill.com\/5d1465d73e2f07.03278208.jpeg.jpg?w=1140&h=auto\" alt=\"\" title=\"33620098\" \/><\/p><p>As a vegan, I feel a bit smug because I\u2019m already doing \u2018the most significant thing we can do as individuals to help reduce climate change\u2019, as George Monbiot said recently.<\/p><p>Of course I\u2019m going to be happy about that! However, the Smug Vegan label is also a reminder that we all need to do more. I can\u2019t just be smug and think that I\u2019m done.<\/p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.teemill.com\/5d146631991816.31455983.png.jpg?w=1140&h=auto\" alt=\"\" title=\"33620103\" \/><\/p><h2>Smug but not satisfied<\/h2><p>We all need to make better choices and take better actions. Whether that\u2019s donating to a cause that does good work (like our chosen charities), walking to pick up the kids instead of driving, buying loose veg instead of plastic packaged produce, taking part in activism, or baking vegan cakes to share at work (and show how yummy this lifestyle can be).<\/p><p>So Smug Vegan is a reminder and a statement. I (and you) are doing a good thing, and you\u2019re also not done yet.<\/p><p>What do you think?
